While urinary tract trauma is relatively rare, it can be categorized into three distinct types based on the location of the injury. Kidney injuries, for instance, occur in approximately 1 out of every 10 cases of abdominal trauma, underscoring their significance. The bladder, on the other hand, benefits from protection by the pelvic bone, making it resilient to injury except in cases of significant impact. Understanding these distinctions is crucial when evaluating and managing urinary tract trauma.
A renal transplant, commonly known as a kidney transplant, is a surgical procedure designed to treat end-stage renal disease (ESRD) or severe kidney dysfunction. In this procedure, a healthy kidney is obtained from either a living donor, often a family member or friend, or a deceased donor with compatible tissue. The donated kidney is then surgically implanted into the recipient’s lower abdomen. During surgery, the donor kidney’s blood vessels are connected to the recipient’s blood vessels, and the ureter is linked to the recipient’s bladder.
